For me, yoga is everything that keeps a practitioner ‘glued’ together. It’s not only a way of life; it is unparalleled to any physical inward journey that I’ve practiced. I discovered Sivananda Yoga when I was searching for something different. Oh, I found it all right, and almost quit because of a few difficult postures. What was once a fear transformed into strength, flexibility, centering, poise, and surprisingly, my heart started to open in ways words can’t describe. Yoga can help you to see people and life in a much different way, a deeper more connected sight begins to emerge. With continued practice you can stop reacting to situations, and respond with presence.
The meaning of the word Yoga means ‘to yolk’, union with self. An ancient spiritual discipline to harness the mind to experience what is beyond it, and to develop awareness of the inner self. Let’s face it; we are living in a world of external distractions, which take you away from you. How many of us notice people sitting in waiting rooms, bus stops, and restaurants, even park benches without a phone attached to their hand, blind to everything else? Everyone is searching for ‘something’ to fill the void inside them, rather than looking inward enjoying the present moment. I’m not bashing technology, however there needs to be more balance, and personal communication happening between all of us. |
Presently, I teach Gentle Hatha Yoga, Yin Gentle Flow in person, and a restorative yoga online class. In my classes, we practice yoga; it is not a ‘gym-like’ experience and you will work on whatever we are doing at the level you are comfortable with. There is no competition, rather a steady gradual incline to a healthy way of being entirely. We practice asanas (postures), pranayama (breath work), or as well as, a short meditation during the class depending on the dristi (focus) that lesson.
So, you’re wondering how yoga can help you. You can discover, and remember your true nature in a safe peaceful room where you distress from your hectic day through continued practice. Transform your mind, body, and spirit to be more flexible, strong, and balanced. You will be guided to rediscover, reclaim who you are at your deepest level. With continued practice, you learn to implement yoga in your daily life; using the practice to stay grounded and develop more self-awareness. |
Let’s look at the proven benefits you will come to know with continued practice of yogic exercise.
The asanas, (physical poses):
Pranayama (breath work), and meditation are discussed in greater detail under the method, meditation tab.
In 2014, I was hired by Rezolutions Pictures which aired a documentary series on APTN called "Working it out together". I taught yoga in the first five minutes of season 2 episode 4 "Feed the soul". The series is no longer on the APTN archives yet can be verified by Rezolutions Pictures. Click here. You can get in touch with me for existing yoga classes, private, corporate settings or a retreat/workshop setting on my contact page. |
